Mykola Tomenko: "Only simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections can be useful for Ukraine".

Commenting on the President´s motion concerning holding of  early parliamentary elections, Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that the said idea ran counter to the position of the majority of Ukrainian population. "This is the evidence of the latest public opinion polls. Moreover, at present this stand can be perceived as a conflict one, as the politicians and political forces who take the lead over the President by popularity, protest against the early parliamentary elections", - stated Mykola Tomenko.

Another issue is connected with the fact that the presidential rating of Viktor Yushchenko is the lowest one for the whole history of Ukraine´s independence due to the activity of the President´s Secretariat.

Therefore, Mykola Tomenko is convinced that the President should suggest a way to overcome the political crisis either by means of political talks, or by giving his consent to simultaneous early elections of The Verkhovna Rada and the President of Ukraine.

"Such simultaneous early parliamentary and presidential elections can be useful for Ukraine, unless there originates another conflict of authority after the elections. Therefore, it is necessary to amend the Constitution and regulate the legislation before the elections, so that the authorities of the Cabinet of Ministers, the President and the system of executive bodies are clearly delineated", - stated Mykola Tomenko.
